Rooted in SAN’s vision of reimagining Southern Thai culture through scent and design, this Scented Shadow Puppet breathes new life into Nang Talung—a traditional art form once central to storytelling in the South. Traditionally crafted from intricately carved buffalo leather, these puppets are now rare to encounter. SAN transforms this fading heritage into a refined, modern object using eco-friendly scent-infused paper. The perforated patterns—laser-cut with precision—blend motifs from SAN’s logo with southern textile designs, offering a fresh visual identity while honoring its roots. Each piece is mounted on a magnetic base inspired by the banana trunk stands used in live performances, allowing for easy replacement and longevity. More than a decorative item, it’s a sensory expression of culture—bridging tradition and innovation in a way that invites new audiences to engage with Southern heritage in their everyday space.
SAN Scented Sachet
SAN drew inspiration from the traditional art of wrapping "Tupat Sticky Rice" with Kapor leaves, shaping our first fragrance sachet collection. The Tupat reflects the rich cultural diversity of Thailand’s southern region, as it is used in religious rituals during Buddhist Lent, Muslim Hariraya and other local celebrations. SAN uses this as a symbol to narrate the region's cultural heritage, expressed through distinctive shapes and aroma in the SAN Scented Sachet.
